The Caucasus is a mountain chain of incredible beauty, but it is also devastated by wars and ethnic conflicts
of appalling violence. Against this background of death, poverty and desperation the German musician Uwe
Berkemer creates an orchestra of musicians from diverse ethnic groups, who bring a seed of peace to the war
zones and most isolated villages. The film enters the people’s houses and describes their sorrow like “cows
taken to the slaughterhouseâ€, but also the hopes of the musicians for the future of their homeland where the
roses continue to grow even among the ruins. The music becomes the instrument of peace and the echo of
these notes in the Caucasian mountains almost drives out that of gunfire.
